I was reviewing my business the other day and assessing how well it is going. I will be honest and say that it is not progressing as fast as I would like it. Then again, to be honest, I want it all to be successful right now. That, unfortunately is never going to happen.
Regardless of what sales and marketing tell you, success in anything you undertake takes time. There has never been, or will ever be, instant success. The reason is, success is built upon all of your efforts, not just one thing.
Let me give you an example. In 2013 I started the 5/2 diet. That is where you eat normally for five days of the week and fast for 2. Because of that diet I did start to lose weight fast (no pun intended) however, it did take more than just one day to make it all work. Over a 6 month period I lost a lot of weight. Over the next two years, I continued to slowly lose weight and have managed to keep myself slim.
To often people want that instant success. They go on a fad diet, or rush to the gym. They work hard for a couple of weeks and then give up. The sad thing is, they give up, just when things are about to turn around for them. They quit right when they are about to have their first success.
The thing about success is it never about one major success. That major success you have in life, comes from building upon all of the little successes that you have. Like building a house, your little successes are the bricks. When you lay them all out properly over time, it builds into your house of success.
Of courses you have to remember that success never comes without failure. Anyone who thinks that you can just go out and be successful and never have any problems is kidding themselves. The path to success is fraught with danger. There are plenty of chances to fail along the way, and you will. To achieve real success, you need to learn from any failure, pick yourself up again and keep going.
I will tell you that in my weight loss over the last 2 years, I have had times where I put on a bit of weight again. We have done a lot of traveling and that can help add kilo’s as you try new food and allow yourself to have excess of what you normally would. And Christmas is never a good time for weight loss. However, putting weight back on is never the problem.
When I put a bit of weight back on, and I have never done more than a couple of kilos, I just pick myself back up again, get back on my diet and keep going. I could throw my hands up in the air and give up, but I know that will not allow me to achieve my goals. I don’t class myself as a failure, I just see it as a set back, learn from it and keep moving forward.
So success is a slow. It takes time. The real weight loss losers are prepared to take time to ensure that they lose weight at a reasonable and sustainable level. The rich work everyday to make sure that their business or investments continue to earn them money. And I am the same with my business. I work every day, most of it behind the scenes to make sure that it continues to grow and becomes a viable entity.
The best thing is, most people will never remember, or even know, at what point they became successful. It happens so slowly, that one day, well past to point of success that you realize you actually are successful. However, what most people will remember is getting to that point. The effort, the setbacks, the success you had along the way. That, is what we call life.
The struggle may be hard sometimes, but it makes for great moments of our lives.
So if things are not working out for you at the moment don’t despair. It will get better. Take time to review what you are doing, learn from your success and mistakes, seek help from people who can help you, keep your eyes on your goals and go back out and do it again. You will get there. It is exactly what every successful person in the world has done before.
